10 Tips To Make Your Leather Furniture Look Beautiful

Most of the time you'll find that it is quite easy to clean and maintain leather furniture. With some cleaning experience, you can also master the art of cleaning your leather furniture. Remember, regular cleaning will ensure that your furniture stays in a perfect condition for long. Usually leather furniture is expensive, but with just a little everyday care you can ensure that it can last a lifetime, and your investment pays off.

Proper care will increase the life of leather and keep it looking attractive. When compared to any other upholstery, leather lasts much longer and with time its look improves if maintained properly. A little care can have wonderful effects on the looks of your leather furniture.

Here are top tips which will help you to keep your furniture in top-notch condition.

1. Leather can also fade just like wood and because it can dry up, it stiffens and cracks when placed near the sources of heat. Therefore, try not to place it close to fireplaces or in a room where direct sunlight is present for most of the day.

2. Use a white, clean cloth or vacuum to remove dust after every couple of weeks to ensure that it stays clean.

3. Wipe the surface by using a slightly damp, soft cloth to clean accumulated dirt. To make sure the leather doesn't absorbs it when you're doing it for the first time, test in an inconspicuous spot. If it looks like that the leather absorb the water, use only a dry cloth.

4. If there's a spill, then quickly use a dry cloth to blot and allow it air-dry. Blotting instead of wiping is important as it removes all the moisture out before it can spread in it.

5. Every 6-12 months, use a good leather conditioner for your DIY upholstery cleaning.

6. Avoid placing printed materials on it as it can absorb dyes easily. The ink from the printed materials can transfer and leave stains on the furniture.

7. Try your best to stay away from scratches as leather can easily get scratched. Never use any sharp tool while cleaning your leather furniture.

8. To clean stains, never use ammonia, detergents, harsh soap, or cleaning solvents.

9. Avoid soaking the stain heavily with water because it can prove to be more damaging than the stain itself.

10. Using a clean, dry cloth blot excessively for grease stains. After a short period of time, the spot would gradually disappear into the leather. Ask a professional leather specialist for help, if the stain persists.

However, it's better to call professional upholstery cleaners if you really want to keep your leather furniture safe and clean.

Measuring a Room Is a Vital Step Prior to Purchasing New Furniture

Buying new furniture is an exciting endeavour and most of us are eager to get started as soon as we see the armchair or bed of our dreams. There is of course nothing wrong with being eager to add new furniture to a home but there are a few potential problems that can occur if a little prior planning is not taken into account.

One of the biggest problems faced by homeowners when they bring home a new item of furniture is the realisation that the expensive leather sofa they have purchased is too big for the living room interior. Either that or the sofa won't fit through the living room door. Whether it's the staircase, front door, back door, an unusual interior angle or the banister rails, there's usually going to be an aspect of the home that will be problematic for certain sized furniture pieces.

It is thus vitally important to take some measurements before beginning the furniture selection and purchasing process. The location which will need to be measured first is the room in which the furniture item is to be positioned. This can be done with a standard measuring tape and the help of a friend or family member to hold the other end.

In the case of smaller rooms, the measuring process is of particular importance. The selected area where the furniture piece will be situated needs to be measured meticulously as does the surrounding space. Factors to bear in mind include any foot and access space in relation to the furniture item. For example, a sofa will need space in front for feet to rest and a double bed will need plenty of access space either side and at the bottom.

The height of the furniture will also need to be thought about, especially when it comes to tall furniture pieces like cabinets, bookshelves and wardrobes. The ceiling height won't usually be a problem but it's worth checking the height nonetheless instead of finding a new oak wardrobe won't fit.

It's not just in the interior where the new furniture piece is to be located that needs to be measured. The access routes into the room and into the home itself need to be measured. When the sofa, dining table or wardrobe is being delivered, you don't want to find it won't fit through the front door. Measure the height and width of all the doorways through which the item will have to be carried as well as any narrow passage ways, garden gates and surrounding walls.

Measuring a room and the relating entrance ways won't take a great deal of time. Once you have the measurements completed, you can then compare them to the dimensions of the furniture piece in question, whether you're buying from a store in the high street or from the internet. Knowing all these details will help you picture the item of furniture in its final position and thus make choosing the right piece for your needs much easier.

Aspects You Should Consider If You Are Buying New Furniture for Your Home

Buying new furniture for you home can involve a significant amount of money. But it also takes time and care to ensure you are purchasing the right items to meet your needs, and match your tastes. Choosing new furniture involves investing money, time and thought in your home.

This article suggests some of the aspects you should consider when you are purchasing new furniture. Although we are not all experienced in interior design, there are a few simple guidelines we can follow so the items we buy will add beauty, functionality and comfort to our homes.

The first aspect to consider is the size of the room requiring furniture. For example, your living room is usually the most used room in the house. Think about the traffic the room gets, why it is used and by whom. This will help you decide the type of furniture you need.

Many living rooms are the main family room of the home, so they will need comfortable seating, appropriate lighting, and possible a table and chairs, especially if there is no separate dining room. Shelving for books and personal possessions, or a unit to house audio and visual electrical equipment is also fairly essential in most modern living rooms.

Once you have decided on the items you need to place within the available space, you can then start to consider the colour scheme and décor of the room. Try to choose furniture in classic shades and prints which will not look outdated or go out of fashion quickly. Also, think about the style of the furniture. If you room has a contemporary feel to it, you should consider more modern styles like mono-color finishes, or leather and stainless steel. However, if you have created a cosy country cottage style in your room, soft upholstered chintz, rugs and well-crafted wood furniture will look more at home.

By carefully choosing the right style and color of furniture, you can bring the whole look and feel of the room together. This is a professional tip from interior designers and it is very effective. Often people buy furniture which looks good in store without considering how it will look in the room. Then when it is in place, it somehow does not look as impressive or attractive. Simply by keeping your color palette simple, choosing items which match your color scheme, and suit the style of your home, you can create a well laid out, functional and beautiful room.

Before you go shopping, always measure the space where the new furniture will be placed. You would be surprised how many people have to return big furniture items which were purchased in haste before the space was properly measured. This is especially important for large pieces of furniture like sofas, tables, beds, sideboards and other large pieces of storage furniture.

The final step is to decide upon your budget. Apart from a few lucky families, most of us have to make the budget a big consideration when buying furniture. For those of you on a tight budget, the best advice is to identify how much you can afford, and stick to it. Then shop around. There are many bargains to be found.

If you have a clear idea of what you are looking for, it will be possible to buy what you want at a discount price. It may take a little longer, but you will find your dream sofa or a beautiful table at the right price if you look.

Consider all these pints, and you are more likely to successfully buy furniture for your home which will last a long time, be comfortable, and look great.
