4 Common Shapes of Dining Tables and Choosing Your Ideal Option

There are several reasons for choosing to buy a new dining table: an expanding family, relocation, and home renovation. In some cases, a homeowner may want a new one because the existing table is somehow grizzled. One important aspect of picking the appropriate table is the shape. Many people may view it as a trivial consideration, but if a shopper wants something that fits squarely into their space, they would want to give the table's shape a lot of thought. Here are four common shapes for dining tables and a few insights into selecting the ideal pick.

Rectangular

A rectangular table is a popular and traditional choice. It's usually available in different materials and finishes. It is easy to work it into a modern setting to create a beautiful and charming space. For a perfect family meal, it's advisable to choose a narrow rectangular table as it keeps people together. Wide options tend to be impersonal and less welcoming. A long, narrow table is also a functional option for homes with large families.

Oval

Buyers may want to go for this shape if they occasionally host guests at their house. Oval dining tables lend a sense of occasion to any meal, and it also boasts a luxurious touch. It is thoughtful to pick one that has pedestal legs as this helps to eliminate the leg-banging problem. An oval table lacks sharp corners, meaning it's possible to add in last-minute guests. The curved edges of this table make it a good option for small spaces that also act as thoroughfares. They encourage people to move freely and conveniently.

Round

A round dining table is an ideal choice for a small family, and good options accommodate up to six dining chairs. It offers a setting for useful conversations because it keeps people close. Moreover, this shape is compact, meaning it can easily fit in small spaces. For example, the kitchen area or space in the living room will be a great fit for this table. Round tables that feature a glass tabletop are celebrated picks because they take less visual space.

Square

The downside of a square dining table is that it occupies considerable space, but it's a fitting option that makes conversations easier. If a dining room is large enough, then it makes a reasonable addition. Smaller square dining tables work well for smaller families, but a person may want a larger size if they share the table with guests. For a square table, opting for curved chairs will help complete the look.

When looking at the several dining table shapes, one should try to imagine the look and feel they anticipate. The size of the dining room or space where the table is going to sit should be regarded when choosing the shape. Additionally, a shopper might also want to consider the type and style of dining chairs that suit a particular shape. For example, armless chairs are the standard chair options, but stools also fit oval tables well. Shoppers should take the time to weigh the available options and settle for a shape that enhances their space while making meals more enjoyable.

Living Room Furniture That Is Practical, Stylish, and Meets Your Family Needs

Because it is probably one of the busiest places in your home, selecting your living room furniture can be a big deal. You want to create an area everyone can enjoy without sacrificing your budget or taste. Consider the different components that make up your living area. Not only is adequate seating important, but you will probably want to incorporate other accents and features such as, small tables, bookshelves or desks, entertainment equipment, lamps, rugs and decorative pieces. Most furniture stores will have entire rooms put together for you at a packaged price, but you can also build your own.

Seating

Depending on the size of your space, you may consider a couch, love seat, chairs, recliners, or some combination of these for seating options. Think carefully about how your family will use the space. For example, if you have small children or pets, you may not want a color of fabric that shows dirt easily. Most furniture stores, however, sell cleaning solution or offer the same piece in multiple fabric options. For an area that is used less frequently, you might consider leather, a textile easily damaged and more quickly aged from use. If you have a large family or entertain frequently, you may want more seating than a family of three that normally engage in social gatherings outside of the home.

Tables

Tables can also be dependent on your choice of seating.
You may want to have an end table beside each couch or chair, where you can place lamps, small-framed pictures or other decorative items, and beverages or drinks. A coffee table is also nice to home the daily paper or magazines, a candy dish, or coasters for use on all the tables in the room. You may also have other accent tables that are solely for design, such as featuring pictures or a large floral arrangement.

Entertainment

While some formal areas may not have any kind of audio or video equipment, most living room spaces include a television and a stereo of some kind. Given the placement of your seating, consider the best place for the size of TV you would like. With the flat screen designs of today, it's easy to mount one on the wall if you don't have the space for a media stand. Depending on how much your family enjoys watching television or listening to music, you may choose to make this a larger part of your spending plan.

Accessories

The little things can give your living room furniture a whole new look. The style of lamps and shades can make your space look warmer and more welcoming. Family photographs add a personal touch. Framed art gives the area more character and can be a conversation piece. A nice rug adds a nice splash of color or design, even in a carpeted room.

Look online to get inspiration for your living room furniture. Then, consider the space you have available, and your own family needs and you are ready to build an area that you will enjoy for years to come.

The Pros and Cons of Sleeper Sofas

A sofa bed is a common sight in a guest room, but more and more Americans are now considering using them as part of their standard living room set. Most furniture stores now offer a wide array of this convenient piece of furniture, which can be folded up into a couch, or pulled out to be a full or queen size makeshift sleeping surface. However, any potential consumer should consider a few factors when weighing the pros and cons of regular couches versus sleepers.

Function of The Room

If your home has an extra room that isn't being used as a full-time bedroom, it may be convenient to use it as a sitting room most of the time, then convert it into a guest bedroom when you have visitors. It may also come in handy if you have friends over late, who would prefer to stay with you instead of driving home. However, if you are considering purchasing a sofa bed to be your predominant sleeping surface, make sure to thoroughly research the mattress type and try out a few options for comfort.

Cost Efficiency

If one of the main reasons for your purchase is your desire to entertain out-of-town visitors, be realistic about how many guests you will host in a year. If you only have a few visitors in a year, purchasing a deluxe sleeper sofa may not be cost effective. However, if friends or family visit regularly, a sleeper sofa can be the perfect way to keep your guests comfortable while reducing hotel bills.

Size of The Room

If the room in question is of a smaller size and is meant to have a double function, a sofa bed may be the perfect double duty furniture item. For example, if you live in a studio, then this might be a perfect option for you so that you can have your bedroom when you want it, while retaining the option to transform it into a TV watching room or a sitting room for friends. All furniture stores should stock a wide array of size options, ranging from twin to full to queen size mattresses.

If you do decide to purchase a sleeper sofa, remember to look for one of the highest quality that will last you the longest time without malfunction. Typically, a hardwood frame is more durable, such as one made of furniture grade plywood. Softer woods like pine will bend and warp after a shorter amount of time. Additionally, make sure to look for a smooth, quiet mechanism for lifting the bed in and out. Finally, check that there are no sharp edges under the sleeping surface that may snag or rip your sheets. Most importantly, test everything you consider buying while you are at the local furniture stores! Happy shopping!

Four Tips to Keep Your Bedroom Furniture From Looking Bland

Often, people spend their time at home relaxing in shared spaces like the living room and kitchen. Many homeowners put an emphasis on keeping these areas stylish, upgrading components and furniture to make their homes feel elegant and give them a sense of relaxation and peace. Upgrading a private area like the master suite can easily make a well-lived-in home feel new again. When upgrading to new bedroom furniture, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Consider the Size

Bedroom furniture comes in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and styles and certain pieces simply won't work in certain rooms. Before going to the furniture store, take the measurements of your room. This will ensure that only furniture that fits is considered. As a general rule of thumb, avoid using large statement pieces in small spaces.

Get Creative with Lampshades

If a room needs nothing more than a few new accent pieces to enhance the existing decor's style, don't be afraid to mix and match colours and themes. Sometimes, a new lamp is all that's needed to completely transform the look and feel, and playing fast and loose with existing styles can make a design look even trendier than otherwise possible. There's no need to settle on plain colours; patterns and vibrant complementary colours can transform the space into a new, relaxing paradise.

Mix and Match Furniture Pieces

While a matching bedroom set can create a cohesive theme in a room, adding pieces from multiple styles or brands can create a unique appearance that expresses an individual's style. Don't be afraid to combine different finishes, colours, and styles to create a unique theme. For example, use light-coloured throw rugs to add brightness with a large, dark wood statement piece. Add soft classic accents to complement a sleek contemporary bed set.

Don't Neglect Storage Options

Clutter can make even the largest rooms feel small, but not all bedrooms feature adequate storage space or solutions. Consider adding bookshelves to add more vertical storage to the space. If storage is at an absolute premium, look for a bed set with built-in drawers or a headboard with shelves to create more storage space. Rather than storing everything on the top of a dresser, invest in a nightstand that provides adequate storage for an alarm clock, books, or any other necessities best kept close at hand.

Bedroom furniture should be both practical and stylish, and upgrading a few key items in a bedroom can dramatically change the look of the space. Don't settle on the same bland look; follow these tips and create a unique space that fosters both a sense of relaxation and comfort.

How to Pick a Sofa for Your Living Room

Finding the right sofa can become quite a challenge. Given the wide variety of styles, colors, materials and sizes of sofas it definitely pays off to do some research before you visit your local furniture store or shop online. Here are some things to keep in mind:
Size
Sofas come in different sizes, from loveseats to sectionals. Therefore, it is important to measure the area where you want to put the sofa. Make sure there is still enough space to walk around. If you consider buying a reclining sofa or sofa bed make sure that the sofa still fits into the room when it is fully reclined or unfolded.
To find the right size think about what the sofa will be used for. Is it mostly used to entertain guests or watch a big game with a bunch of friends? Or will it be used to host overnight guests or spend time with your family?
Style
The style of the sofa should fit to the existing décor of your home. If the existing furniture has a more traditional look a modern sofa might not be the best choice. In general, it is advisable to pick a sofa before you buy the rest of the living room furniture. This way you can make sure that the sofa becomes the centerpiece of your room that determines the style and look.
Color
As with the style make sure that the color of the sofa matches the color of the existing furniture. However, the right color also depends on your living situation. If you have kids or pets you should consider buying a sofa with a darker color, on which stains are not that visible.
Since a sofa is a big investment you also want to make sure to pick a color that does not leave you boxed in. White for example is timeless and can be combined easily with almost every other color. Make sure, however, to choose a material that is somewhat stain-resistant and easy to clean. Cream, biscuit or brown are also great choices that look warm, classic and are always in style. Gray is also very popular and easy to combine with other colors.
Material
The material of a sofa determines its characteristics, like strength, durability, stain resistance, and cost. Sofas are available in natural and synthetic materials. Natural materials are leather, cotton, linen, wool or sink. Synthetic materials are microfiber, faux leather and chenille. The right material depends on your personal preferences, budget and living situation. If you suffer from allergies, for example, you should consider microfiber since it does not attract dust and is lint free. Leather gives your room an elegant touch and is easy to clean and maintain, though more expensive than other fabrics.
Price
Probably one of the most important things to think about before you buy a sofa is how much you are willing to spend. Prices for sofas range from a few hundred dollars to 5,000 dollars and more. So set a budget upfront and stick to it.

Decorating Tips using Three Colors

Using the color wheel to create a color scheme in your home makes the decorating process go smoothly. Using triadic colors -- three colors equally distant from each other on the color wheel -- will make your room memorable.

Each color has the same intensity, which creates a balanced room. Tie a sofa or chair color together with a colored pattern from curtains or rugs. Add in a variety of solid colors from each triadic color to bring the bold colors in the room in line.

Don't be afraid to use neutrals to break up the intense color -- this gives the room good grounding. Triadic color schemes create rooms that are vibrant without being overwhelming.

Interior Decorating Tips with Cool Color Scheme

Try decorating a room using the cool colors as a room's color scheme. Choose one hue to be the dominant color for cohesiveness. Use the color on walls, in the rugs and throw pillows. Take the chill off of cool colors by adding in warm undertones. Use white as a crisp neutral. Including patters will help carry the color scheme. Find a print that showcases all the colors in the scheme. Play with different color combinations from the cool side of the color wheel to create a room that gives a calm vibe, mix in a crisp neutral and a few hints of warm hues, and you'll create the room color combination.

Choosing colors from the warm side of the color wheel -- from sunny yellows to vibrant oranges to rich reds and pinks -- gives the room a feeling of a welcoming embrace. To get a look that's comfortable, use muted colors as a base. Balance the dark colors with bright colors is key for creating a dynamic space. Look for opportunities to use patterns containing both of your main colors. Fuse the colors by using doses of them in combinations -- by mixing the two main colors together. Balance warms colors with touches of cool accents. Look to different hues to start the scheme, add in a few cooling accents and muted neutrals, and you'll create a room that's sure to project vibrancy and warmth.

Bedroom Furniture That Gives Your Space Personality and Comfort

When it comes to your private space, you want to have the best furnishings that provide storage and add personal style to your room. This is the bedroom furniture you need to make this space your favorite area of your home.

Fireplace

Portable fireplaces offer charm and whimsy and are perfect for relaxing with after a long day. Install one at the end of your bed so you can take advantage of the heat and light in your room. Whether you are doing paperwork for your job or reading a book, this addition makes you feel like you are living in luxury.

Lighting

Consider adding wall sconces to brighten up a smaller space and give it grandeur. If you want to make your area appear brighter, recessed lighting along your closet and around your bedroom furniture will work. You can install decorative light fixture covers that match your home's décor.

Chest and Drawers

A matching chest and dresser set in deep natural wood, such as maple or walnut, are pieces of bedroom furniture that will last you for decades and work with any type of decor. If you have modern furnishings, these pieces will blend well. They also work with classic styles, such as wood floors with white walls. You can choose a plain finish that shows off the natural wood grain or pick one that has ornate etchings in pretty designs, such as floral patterns or trendy geometric patterns that match your personal taste best.

Table

There are many reasons to add a table to your decor. A table breaks up a large, empty space. For smaller areas, it adds fine storage. Choose a table that is low to the ground, preferably level to your bed, so you can place clothing and work attire on it. You can also use your table for reading, placing candles or bedside lamps on, or to display decorative throw pillows for a homey appeal. This bedroom furniture is uncommon in many private areas but has many benefits that you can employ.

Accessories

A shag rug, mosaic lamp, and large detailed mirror add that final touch of pizazz to any room that is lacking bedroom furniture with personality. You can mix and match these things to make your space match you in many ways.

Whether you want to upgrade your private space or want to feel cozier and comfortable in your room, your options are endless.

Interior Decorating with a Yellow Color Scheme

Decorating with a group of similar color is called an analogous color scheme. It offers a way to create a vibrant space while sticking to a specific family of colors. The dynamic analogous color scheme begins with one color and adds in those next to it on the color wheel.

When using analogous colors, ground the space by keeping large pieces of furniture the same color and free of pattern and texture -- this gives the room a solid background.

Next, bring in one eye-catching pattern in another color from the scheme. Then, use neighboring colors from the color wheel punch up the scheme -- these can be used in throw pillows, shades, rugs and artwork.

Interior Decorating Tips with a Purple Color Scheme

A monochromatic color scheme consists of varying shades in one hue. Imagine a strip of paint colors and how the shades vary on one strip -- these shades are monochromatic.

A one-color scheme room is far from boring when you add a range of intensities. Create a base with a wall color and use large furniture to ground the base color. To keep a monochromatic palette interesting, add patterns and textures. This could mean glossy lamps, embroidered, textured and patterned pillows in a variety of hues. This gives the eye a break from solid color.

To create more places for the eye to rest, use neutrals. This will tie everything in the room together. With plenty of texture and pattern, and a combination of color intensities, a monochromatic color scheme plays out vibrantly all while relying on a single color.

Coffee Tables: Why We Need Them and How To Choose One

Coffee tables have been around since the Victorian Era. Meaning they have been around for about 1000 years. They have played many roles throughout the years and will continue to do such. They have been used as centerpieces in homes, places over which important conversations have taken place, home to snacks during important sporting events, areas where families come to gather together. They have been made out many materials like wood, metal, glass, plastic, and many other things.

Coffee tables are an essential part of any home décor style. We need them for their practical purpose just as much as we need them for their decor purposes. They are normally placed in the center of the living or family room over a rug or just on the ground. The coffee table is meant to compliment your sofas, rugs, wall décor and paint by tying them all together as the finishing touch to any home.

They are also made to serve a practical purpose. If you plan on having one in your family room then it will most likely be the place to put your feet when having a conversation or watching a movie. It can be a place to play a card game or board game with your kids. A place to have snacks and drink during games and movies. Or maybe a place where your kids can get homework done and store their school supplies. When placed in a living room it can serve the purpose of holding décor items or maybe hold the occasional beverage while conversing with friends and guests. No matter where you place it will serve a great purpose.

There are many questions to think about when choosing a coffee table because you definitely want the right one for your home. First, ask yourself where you will be placing it and what it will be used for. If it will be experiencing a lot of wear and tear don't go with glass unless you want the possibilities of scratches and a possible broken top. Instead, go with metal or wood as they are more durable.

Second, what shape and size do you want? Do you want a rectangular, circular, oval, or square table? If being placed in front of a sectional couch a square table is better. If you have younger kids a circular table is safer because it doesn't have sharp edges. Whereas a rectangular or oval table is great to be placed in front of any type of couch.

Lastly, you need to think of your décor style. Be sure to choose a table that complements your furniture and décor you already have in your house. Make it feel like an extension of what you already have, not an odd piece that sticks out (unless that is your décor style).

Enjoy a coffee table in your home and have fun while choosing one. It doesn't have to be hard, it just has to be done right. With these steps you now have, choosing your next coffee table will be a breeze. And don't forget to make memories over your new furniture addition!

Interior Decorating Tips with Neutral Color Scheme

Decorating a room in neutral colors doesn't have to be boring. Here are a few room decorating ideas using neutral colors! Neutrals aren't just gray, black, white or beige - they can also be muted colors from the color wheel.

You can decorate a room using different paint color combintations of neutral colors. Using muted colors in differing patterns and intensities adds dimension to a room. With other color schemes, balance the main color with contrasting hues.

A single pattern featuring all the hues will tie everything together. A neutral room relies on the same principles as colorful rooms. Use neutrals you love, balance cool neutrals with warm neutrals, add in pattern and you'll be well on your way to a beautiful neutral room.

How to Choose Furniture for Your Home

So you bought a home and you need to furnish it. Where do you start and what do you get? Let's take a look at the options you have available to you. First we'll go through the home; there's the kitchen, living room, formal dining room, and two bedrooms. The first decision you need to make before we begin is do you want quality or quantity? Do you want quality, well-built furniture or cheap mass-produced items? The quality may cost you a bit more initially, but in the long run it will be in your best interest to invest in well-built furniture that will last a lifetime. To help you choose a well-known quality dealer in your area we will now go into some details to help you with your choices.
In the kitchen you are going to need a breakfast table and chairs. There are many options here. You can go with a casual Formica table and chairs like Mom and Dad had when you were growing up to a more formal solid wood model. The thing you need to be aware of in choosing pieces is their functionality and construction. The better the material and workmanship the longer they will last you. This is a very important piece of the puzzle to take into account, as this will more than likely not be the last home you will live in.
The next room we'll deal with is the living room. The biggest furniture decision here is the couch. Although they may all look the same, construction methods vary wildly. Make sure that whatever kind of couch you choose is constructed tightly. Some of the better, longer-lasting couches use solid wood frames with tongue and grove fittings for the joints. Many manufacturers prefer screws and glue for the joints; both methods are acceptable. Remember the better the construction the longer the piece will last. If you have a formal dining room in your new home and need a formal dining table, that same advice goes for your dining table. Solid wood is the key here. Some formal dining tables are glass but the wood ones are extremely elegant and come in variations from solid wood like cherry and walnut to a less expensive base wood covered with veneers. Don't forget guest chairs, side tables, and lamps. The same parameters apply with these choices. See that they match or fit in with the style of your couch and guest chairs.
Next we come to the bedroom. There are endless choices for beds and end tables. They range from the traditional spring mattresses to memory foam and airbeds. This is of course a personal choice on your part but the look and feel of these fixtures should be consistent with your other choices. Many times you can tie this piece into you other choices with the headboard and end tables and lamp choices. If you have children and need new bedroom furniture for them, you can look at the current collection available at the furniture dealer you have chosen to work with. Of course choices will vary somewhat depending on whether you are buying for a boy or a girl. But the same considerations of quality and workmanship apply here as they do with your other choices.

4 Tips for Buying New Living Room Furniture

If you are in the market for new living room furniture, there are several things you need to consider. Though it sounds easy just to waltz into a store and pick out the prettiest of pieces, you need to plan ahead for the space.

Material

When you begin looking at living room furniture, one of the first things you should think about is material. Sofas and loveseats come in a variety of materials, including leather, microfiber, and other upholstery fabrics. You will need to think about which will compliment your lifestyle. If you have pets or young children, you may want to stick to a microfiber because it is easy to clean. If you want a more formal room, you can choose from a variety of upholstery, from carpet to suede. If you have a more modern taste, leather is also a nice option and it comes in various colors.

Sectional or Separates?

When it comes to choosing a sofa, many people are faced with choosing \between sectionals and separates. Sectionals have their benefits - they can seat many people, they often come with built-in recliners or sofa beds, and they make a nice statement in a room. Separate sofas and loveseats, however, are more formal than sectionals. You will also have more options when it comes to arranging them. If you are a fan of frequently rearranging, a separate sofa and loveseat may be a better choice.

Do You Really Need End Tables?

Another question many people often have is whether or not end tables are necessary. This is dependent on a few factors. End tables are great for storing your regularly used items like remote controls, lamps, and magazines. If your space is too small, then just skip them and save yourself the extra cost.

Is There Enough Space for Everything?

Before you purchase any living room furniture, you need to make sure you do not buy too much or buy something that is too large for the space you have. The size of many items can be deceiving. When you are in a large store and looking at each piece separately, they do not seem as big. Before you shop, map out the available space and decide where everything will go. Measure the walls and area where the pieces may fit, and be sure to take the tape measure to the store with you so you can measure items as you go.

Getting new living room furniture can be fun, but you need to be prepared. Do some research and planning ahead of time so that you can have just the right pieces for your room.

Laying Out Your Living Room Furniture Like a Pro

The living room is one of the most essential and frequently used spaces of the house, so it follows that making this venue the most enjoyable is well worth the time and effort. However, many don't know the basic principles of design to make the living room user-friendly. Read on to discover these interior design tricks that will make any space a pleasure in which to spend time.

Consider the Focal Point

Is the view outside the window a city skyline or a well-manicured front yard? The living room is an ideal setting from which to enjoy this scenery, so the furniture should be situated accordingly. Similarly, living rooms may be arranged as a venue for watching sports and movies with the family, in which case the layout should be conducive to these activities and pointed toward the television. Wherever the focal point of the room, designers recommend that seating should be arranged so one may view the focal point in the most comfortable way. For example, if guests will be enjoying looking outside, then the sofa should be positioned opposite the window to allow them ease of view without craning their necks. Use of the furniture must also be considered; if one plans to lie down on the couch to watch the tube, the television should be positioned perpendicular to the couch so one can look straight ahead.

Plan for Seating

Will the room be used to entertain guests frequently? Or is the living room primarily occupied by the family? Plan the seating around the number of expected visitors and who will most often be in the room. If the living room is small, sofas are an ideal option as they have the largest seating to size ratio, whereas chairs and loveseats take up more space in the room while offering relatively fewer spots for guests. When it's time to throw a party, the room will look like it was designed by a pro if ample seating is already incorporated into the room's design instead of having to awkwardly shuffle metal folding chairs out of the closet.

Look at the Traffic Pattern

No, this doesn't mean to think about the number of cars passing by. Rather, when planning where the furniture will be placed in the living room, consider where the doors are located and what rooms are adjacent to the living room. How will family members and guests be traversing the space? Be sure that one can easily maneuver from their seat to the bathroom or kitchen without tripping. Also, consider the size of the furniture before purchasing the piece. If shopping for a studio efficiency, perhaps a six-by-two-foot coffee table is not the most practical choice. In keeping with basic feng shui, guests should be able to walk seamlessly to the door as opposed to shuffling between a bookcase and floor lamp.

The principles of design are intuitive and serve to make living comfortable and enjoyable through useful and aesthetically pleasing furniture layout. Use these tips to get started, and house visitors will be amazed at what a pleasant experience they have in a well-designed space.

3 Steps To Choosing Furniture

Do you ever feel overwhelmed when you walk into a furniture store or are browsing on an online furniture store website? Don't worry, you're not alone. With all the different colors, styles, fabrics, names brands, prices, and materials, it can feel like you just got hit with a ton of bricks

But maybe choosing furniture isn't really as hard as we think it is. There are 3 easy steps to take to know beforehand what to look for. That way when you're surfing the web or visiting your local furniture store, you know exactly what you want and won't end up walking around for hours trying to decide.

The steps are as follows:
1. Choose a style.
2. Choose the color(s).
3. Choose the shade of wood you want.

These steps seem pretty simple, right? Yet, online you will find (what feels like) too many different styles to choose from. But I will simplify it for you here for the moment. Basically, many of the styles can be put into four categories: Modern, Contemporary, Rustic, and Chic. So what are you looking for? Are you needing to add that contemporary twist into your home or maybe that rustic feel? First, we need to understand what these different styles really mean.

The Modern Style is what we would consider being from the 19th century till today. It comes about because of the art style, modernism. The furniture is more of a practical nature and is meant to not be excessive. Especially after World War II, when not many people had an excess of anything. It is usually compact and multifunctional, making it perfect for apartments and smaller homes.

The Contemporary Style ranges from the late 20th century to now. It has the sharper, crispier, clean lines. The style is constantly changing with the times and styles that people like today. It is characterized by more design oriented furniture instead of practicality.

The Rustic Style is what most people would consider farmhouse or cabin furniture. It is a lot of wood and wrought iron decorations and furniture. It also has many dull colors: grays, reds, and browns. It is perfect if you like the country feel.

The Chic style is more bright pastel colors with floral designs. It is also very popular in today's world. Many people like the distressed look that you find with chic furniture.

Once you decide on a style then you move to the colors you want in your home. Colors play on one's emotions. Brighter colors signal more urgency and fun, while duller hues are more homely and relaxing. The specific color can play on your feelings as well. Some extra research can help with that!

Lastly, you need to know what shade of wood you want on your furniture. There are three basic shades: light, medium, and dark. They all complement each style well so this is just a personal choice. Whether you like the natural look or a darkened mahogany look.

After you have decided on these three things you can easily walk into any furniture store and find what you want because you know what you want it to look like and if it will match with all your other furniture pieces. Have fun and enjoy your next furniture shopping spree with these 3 tips.

How to Arrange a Bedroom

Learn how to arrange a room and place bedroom furniture in a way that works for the space.

To arrange a bedroom, consider door and window placement, the room's dimension and the size of your furniture. Place the largest pieces first and then work in the smaller pieces to create a bedroom that is arranged to suit your space and needs.

Start by placing your bed and dresser, the two largest pieces of furniture. Usually the bed is placed along the room's longest wall or opposite the bedroom door. Next, pull in smaller pieces -- such as night stands, ottomans, desks and extra chairs for lounging.

How to Decorate Your Living Room | Interior Design

So the living room when thinking about design is one of my favorite rooms. Why, is because you entertain a lot and I love to entertain. So in the living room you want your sofa to be really comfortable for you, your family, and for your friends coming over.

Whichever way you like to entertain, some people like a few people. Some people are always entertaining tons of guests. You want to make sure that your layout is indicative to that, so if you want smaller group settings for maybe a group of four people here, four people there, great.

If TV viewing is really important to you, then you want to make sure that all your seats are facing towards the TV or to the fireplace. The TV you want to make sure that it's big, but not that it takes up the whole room. Remember it's a big black box, so anything too large is going to seem just really obtrusive.

Lighting, you want to make sure that you have enough task lighting, because I do my work in the living room. So I want to make sure that I can see my paperwork. But at the same token you want ambient lighting, which is lighting around the perimeter. So maybe you have a lamp in the corner. Maybe you have a low light here and there.

Another thing that I love to use are candles. Now you don't want to burn your place down, so if you don't want to use the real ones they have battery operated ones. And you can put those in your candle holders and nobody would ever tell the difference.

Those are some basics for a living room. You add your own personal artwork, maybe a nice accent wall, and you're set really. That's really all you need to make a living room just personal space for you.

Tips on Purchasing a New Dining Table for a Growing Family

A dining table that is too small makes meal times cluttered, disorderly, and uncomfortable. A dining table that is too large may strain conversations and make people feel awkward or alienated. If the table is way too large for the floor space, everyone might end up with their chairs against the wall, which makes going to and from their seats a struggle every meal time.

For sure, you want mealtimes to be a relaxed and comfortable time where everyone on the table enjoys great food and good company. For this to happen, you have to invest time and effort in finding a dining table that's just the right size and form.
What are your needs now and in the near future?
The key to a successful purchase lies in the accurate estimation of your needs. Before you shop for a new dining table, evaluate the current situation at home. How many people dine there regularly? Do you receive guests often? Do you entertain frequently so that guests figure importantly in the estimation? To determine the number of places, include every person who eats at the house regularly and then add two more places. These are for guests who arrive unbidden and accept your impromptu invitation to dine. To avoid overcrowding, it is advisable to allot extra space for other people.
What are the important measurements to take?
To avoid bumping elbows with the next person, everyone must have a comfortable "personal space" on the table, which is at least 24 inches in width. This space allows you to add a place or two when company arrives and stays in for dinner and you can be confident there won't be overcrowding. If you don't want chairs to bump against the wall every time somebody stands up and sits back down, there ought to be a 32-inch space between the walls of the room and the dining table.
What is the ideal table shape for a small dining area?
While you may have a certain preference in terms of the shape of the table, you must base the final decision on other considerations, such as the number of seats, and the dimensions of the room. For instance, if the space is rather limited, it is best to avoid shapes with sharp corners. That rules out square and rectangular tables. Round tables allow for more people to sit down to dinner if the floor space is already confining. To promote the illusion of space and airiness, choose a table with a light color and fine lines. The chairs must not be bulky as well. Curves are also more inviting, so much so that round tables give the dining area a sense of informality that immediately puts people at ease.
You can always go for the classic rectangular table, especially if the room you have is narrow and long. This is the preferred choice for large families that require more than five seats. The most important thing to remember is to choose based on your needs instead of trends and styles that other people are choosing for their own families.

Foyer Lighting - Don't Make This Mistake!

A well-placed chandelier in a two-story foyer doesn't just light up the entryway, but also adds character and ambiance.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see in client homes is that they have not thought about how the chandelier is going to look from the second story.

Let me give you an example. From below this chandelier looks fine. However when you head up the stairs and are on the second story looking down – now what do you see… raw bulbs and harsh lighting. It’s not a good look.

Here’s the tip: When selecting a chandelier for a two story foyer think about how it is going to look from below and from above when you are on the second story.

Take a look at this new foyer light. From below it looks good and now when I head up the stairs to the second floor it looks just as good. I am not looking into a bunch of bulbs and harsh lighting.

Keep this in mind if you have a two story dining room or family room that you can look down into.

These little details can make a big difference. Follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to a Smart Interior.

Planning Your Bedroom Style and Layout

Our bedrooms are not the places in our house that we show off to guests - we don't use them for hosting fine dinners or lively get togethers - but they deserve as much design attention as the other rooms. After all, more than just a place of relaxation and solace away from the bustle of the world outside, it's "the" space in the house that is just for you. If you are like most people, your bedroom is a place where you can shut the door, sit down or lie in bed and just generally enjoy a space that's calm, comfortable and private. We wrote this short guide to help you create your comfortable space where you can enjoy the personal luxury that everybody needs.

Furniture styles

We are starting of with furniture design styles, because once you know what look you are going for it becomes that much easier to visualise the look, and ultimately the feel, you want to create.

There are such a huge variety of furniture decor styles, that it's unlikely that you will run out of options, but it can be daunting to decipher which style will work best for you. A great starting point is to familiarise yourself with furniture design jargon and learn a little about each style in order to help you define and narrow down your search for the type of furniture you want. Modern, classic, rustic and contemporary are just some of the defined styles in furniture decor. You may even prefer to combine elements of several styles to create your own unique look. The ability to identify different interior design styles will provide a framework to personalise your bedroom to your individual taste.

Bedroom Furniture

Once you have the look nailed down, it's time to look at the functional elements, such as the furniture, that makes a bedroom your bedroom. When choosing furniture according to your taste, it's important to look at the quality and craftsmanship, as it is likely to stay part of the room when the paint colour and choice of curtains are long forgotten.

Begin with the bed. The bed is the focal point of any bedroom and is arguably the most important piece of furniture you will buy for the room.

Choose storage for your clothing and personal effects. Dressers, wardrobes or chests of drawers all provide excellent clothing storage.

Buy bedside tables. You will need something to hold your alarm clock, lamp, books, glasses and other items near your bed. Any small table will do. The important thing is that you like the look of it.

Think about what else you will do in your room. If you like to watch TV in your bedroom, you will need to furnish the bedroom with some kind of TV stand. You may also consider a workstation if you often work late at night or often need quick access to your equipment. Other furnishings can include a vanity, lounge chairs, floor lamps, plants or bookshelves.

Tip: Writing down everything you plan to do in your bedroom will help you to decide which pieces of furniture you need.

Layout

Space planning is most probably the trickiest part of decorating any room. If you want to really feel comfortable in your room, make sure that you have enough space to move around and that everything is accessible. Make sure that wardrobe doors and drawers can be easily opened without hitting the bed or other furniture. If your bedroom is on the smaller side, consider open shelving and beds with integrated storage. Leave a minimum of 100 cm in front of every door opening, 30 cm in front of windows and 45 cm walking space between furniture or furniture and walls. RoomSketcher is a nifty online sketching tool to that makes it easy to visualise the layout of your room.

Custom Made Furniture

What if you can't find the type of furniture that fits into your fantasy of a dream bedroom? More and more people are opting to have furniture made especially for them according to their own specifications. Custom furniture is a bit more expensive than store-bought pieces, but an individually made piece of furniture requires the kind of craftsmanship that ensures that it lasts longer than mass factory produced furniture. Custom furniture can also be considered when you want furniture that complements unique features of your house or if you need a special piece to compliment or complete an existing bedroom suite

As most modern living areas serve as through passage rooms that offers little opportunities for rest and quiet activities, the bedroom fulfills an important role as a private sanctuary. With that in mind, it's arguably the room in the house where the look, feel and layout will have the biggest impact on your well being. Proper planning will also help you to avoid underutilised space and unnecessary furniture while creating a bedroom that truly fits your needs.

Are You Planning to Buy Some New Furniture?

The task of purchasing new furniture for an individual's home is oftentimes a difficult process that takes lots of time, effort, and organizing. Before you go out and begin to drop money on any furniture that happens to catch your eye, there are a few tips and rules that you must always follow in order to make your furniture transactions as smooth and simple as possible. Read on to find out what they are, and how to use them as effectively as you can.

Always make sure that the measurements that you have taken of the spot where you will be placing the new furniture are as exact as possible. Carefully and neatly write these measurements down on a piece of paper, in order for you to have them to refer to. Buying a piece of furniture that is the wrong size is incredibly annoying and inconvenient. On top of that, you have to deal with hassle of trying to return/exchange the furniture for something that fits. Aside from having the correct dimension and lengths of the space, it is also pivotal that you have which style and color in mind that will go best inside of your home. If you're not sure of what to pick, always ask a sales assistant for their opinion.

Making yourself a budget and price range is also very critical. Also, once you have set your personal budget, make sure not to go outside of it. If you do go past your spending limits, you may then end up with unwanted financial burdens. Sit down with a pen and paper, and develop a check list as well as price range for each furniture item you intend on buying. While doing this, always take into consideration how much your financial situation currently allows you to afford. Doing this task will allow you to make a proper plan for buying your furniture that will lead you to saving money.

Setup a day where your schedule is completely free, and dedicate all of it to furniture shopping. For example, deciding to go shopping at a Las Vegas furniture store before or after your work day is not a successful plan. Not only will you be incredibly tired and wishing to go home and relax, you will also have to hurry and rush because the stores will all be about to close. A better plan would be to go shopping at a Las Vegas furniture store when you have the day off work, such as a weekend or holiday. When you have the whole day to shop, you'll be able to spend more time looking at furniture, and thus be able to make better decisions.

Before you make the final decision to purchase any piece of furniture, always make sure that you have thoroughly looked at it and confirmed that there is nothing wrong with. Make sure that there are no major bumps or dents, and that it is in the condition that you are paying for. Also, if you are buying furniture that you are aware has defects, make sure that you are paying a proper price for it, and not being overcharged. Request a salesperson to order a new stock of a product if you do not wish for it to have been worn.

Always make sure that you give the piece of paper stating the measurements of your home to the salesperson. Pay careful attention in order to make sure that they select furniture that will fit properly in your house. Whenever it is convenient and possible, bring along a relative or friend in order to have some extra help. When you do this, you reap the benefits of having a trusted second opinion. Additionally, he or she may help you make the tough decision between two pieces of furniture that you cannot make a decision on.

Choosing The Right Furniture For The Living Room

Everyone loves to live in a house that is well furnished and decorated. However, decorating the living room can be one of the most tedious tasks at hand. Also, one thing that makes that task even more tedious is picking up the furniture.

So, in order to make things a bit easy for you, here are a few tips on how you can choose your living room furniture:

Measure up - The first thing that you need to do is get the measurements of the room correct in order to get the furniture of the perfect size. So make sure that you measure the length, breadth and the width of the walls carefully.

Creating floor plans - The next thing you must do is take a grid paper and make a floor plan. This will help you to decide how much space you can spare for the furniture and how much free space you have left in the room.

Measure your doorways - In order to avoid problems at the time of delivery, you must measure up your doorways and order only those items of furniture that can be easily moved in and out of the doorway.

Staging the room - Once you have decided how much space you want to allot to the furniture, you must mark those spaces with a tape in order to get an idea of what the room will look like in the near future.

Start your selection - Once you have done the things mentioned above, you must start making your purchase decisions. Thus, you must consider the kind of décor your room has and the vibe of your house. Once that is done, you must start picking out with the basic things like a sofa, an armchair, etc.

Pick up good quality pieces - Quality does come before quantity. So, even if some of the pieces do cost more, it is better to choose good quality products over flimsy ones as they tend to last longer. So, you must check the fabric of the sofa, chairs, etc. and buy the ones that have good quality.

Coordination is the key - In the end, you want your living room to look beautiful and pleasing to the eyes. Therefore, in order to ensure this, you must see that all the pieces of furniture that you purchase are coordinated with each other and go well with each other. You do not want one piece of furniture not going with another as it will tend to look awkward and disorderly. So, make sure that whatever pieces you buy, they gel with each other.

If you follow the above-given tips, you will end up having a beautiful living room of your own.

Sofa - An Essential Furniture Entity for Every Home

A comfortable sofa is a necessary item needed for every family, it might be for a family get together for a party or just to watch TV. Think for a minute can you watch your favorite television show with a comfortable sofa. Of course not possible, as an uncomfortable sofa might ruin the ease with its perturbing styling or seating. Although you have many choices to pick from the sofas yet buying a suitable couch or sofa is one great decision that you make with a great care.

How to buy a right sofa

There are people who buy furniture without considering the needed tips and this is the point where most of you make serious mistakes. It is a huge mistake because by doing so you might get a defective piece or an unsuitable sofa which is a total waste of your money. So if you want to avoid these things you might have to remember the below-mentioned points

The filling and the material of the sofa

The more comfortable your sofa, the money invested in better. There are some people who bargain the sofa material and its filling over its appearance, which is totally wrong. This is so because the filling speaks of its durability and quality. Although you have a large choice in the sofa filling material, but foam - filled are suitable over others as they are firm and does not cause any type of allergies.

The outer covering

The sofa is not just a piece of furniture, but also decoration ornament as well. This is why you must target its outer covering as well as its fabric. Also, remember the type sofa you are looking for, are you searching for a fabric or a leather sofa? A leather sofa is suitable if you are looking for hand wearing and traditional sofa and if you want a sofa whose cover can be removed and machine washable then fabric one is the best choice. In both leather and fabric, you have plenty of choices to choose, from color, style, and pattern.

The size and the shape

The shape and size of the sofa are also important before making your final thoughts on buying a sofa. The shape and size you prefer must be according to the area of the room so that it does not disturb the movement in the room. Choose irrespective of the size and style of the sofa is a big mistake that many commit when buying a sofa for their home or room which can also make it very congested. So remember not to make this mistake and also measure the size of the room including the window and door sizes before choosing the sofa.

In short, always place the sofa in the right way in your home to boost its decoration. Talk to a seller who deals furniture in your area to find out the right color, shape, and size suitable for a specific room size.
